Flat Lagoon Conditions
Kalpitiya Lagoon is shallow, warm, and protected — ideal for learning. No waves, no current, no reef.
Home / Kitesurfing / Couples
One kites. One relaxes. Both come back lighter.
Most kite trips assume both partners ride. Most beach holidays assume neither does. Valampuri Resort in Kalpitiya is the place where one person learns kitesurfing on the lagoon while the other has a real holiday — pool, kayaking, yoga, seafood, and lagoon views — without sitting in a car park watching kites.
Valampuri Resort in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka is a kitesurfing resort designed for couples where only one partner kites. The kiter takes IKO-certified lessons on the flat lagoon (from €55/hr), while the non-kiter has a swimming pool, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, yoga, massage, and a seafood restaurant — all within the resort grounds. Couple-friendly packages start from €245 per person (two sharing) and include accommodation, meals, lessons, equipment, and boat transfers. Both partners share one lagoon-side base with no separate transport needed.
The problem
A typical kite trip means driving to a windy beach, spending 4–5 hours on the water, and returning tired. The non-kiting partner gets a sun lounger in a wind-blasted car park, or a hotel 30 minutes away with nothing to do.
At Valampuri, the kite school operates from the resort's own lagoon frontage. Lessons happen within sight of the pool and restaurant. The non-kiter doesn't need to wait, drive, or compromise — they have a full resort day while the kiter is on the water. (For the full non-kiting picture, see Kalpitiya for non-kiters; bringing children too? See the family holiday guide.)

Questions
Yes. Valampuri Resort is designed for exactly this. The kiter takes lessons on Kalpitiya Lagoon (within sight of the resort), while the non-kiter uses the pool, kayaks, SUP boards, yoga sessions, and the on-site restaurant. Both partners share the same lagoon-side base — no separate transport needed.
Yes. Valampuri offers beginner taster sessions (1–2 hours) for non-kiters who want to try. The flat lagoon is one of the safest places to learn. No commitment beyond the single session.
Swimming pool, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, yoga, massage, volleyball, board games, lagoon walks, and bird watching — all within the resort. Off-resort: dolphin watching, Wilpattu safari, lagoon boat tour, and crab hunting. No advance booking required for on-site activities.
The Open-Air Cabana (AC, private terrace) is the most requested by couples — only two exist, so book early. The Poolside Comfort Chalet (from €40/night for 2) and the quieter Comfort Terrace Double (from €36/night) are close seconds. Budget couples choose the Garden Eco Chalet (from €20/night).
Yes. The on-site restaurant serves all guests. Half board (breakfast and dinner) is included in kite packages. The non-kiting partner can add meals individually or book half board separately.
May to September offers the strongest wind (25–35 knots) and the best kite conditions. December to March has lighter wind (18–28 knots) and calmer weather — better for non-kiters who prefer gentler conditions. Both seasons offer warm water and clear skies.

One message. We'll suggest lessons for the kiter, activities for the non-kiter, and a room that works for both.
