Mehndi is form of traditional temporary body art from ancient India. Henna (lawsonia inermis) plant leaves dried and powdered for paste to draw mehndi body arts.
The word mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word “mendhika”. The use of mehndi and turmeric is described in the earliest Hindu Vedic ritual books. As a Vedic custom intend to be a symbolic representation of the inner and outer sun it is centered on the idea of awakening the inner light of human.
There are many variations and types of mehndi such as Indian, Arabian and Iranian mehndi. Usually women apply mehndi on palm and foot for traditional festivals weddings and ceremonies while men apply it for traditional festivals. mehndi is still popular form of temporary body art among the women of Indian subcontinent, Africa and middle east. As time progress mehndi (traditional temporary) body art became popular among the men too.
