Kalpitiya, set right at the edge of a peninsula on the western coast of Sri Lanka, is a popular tourist site (although it's remained relatively quiet and chill, adding to its appeal), and it's not very hard to see why. Here are five of the main reasons. Make sure you don't miss any!
1 Kite Surfing:

Kalpitiya is one of the best spots for dolphin watching in Sri Lanka. Here, you can witness massive pods of dolphins, even thousands at once, in their natural habitat.
3 Diving and Snorkeling:
For keen scuba divers and snorkelers, the largest coral reef in Sri Lanka ("Bar reef") is only an hour's boat trip away from Kalpitiya. This beautiful reef is home to an incredible variety of tropical fish, including manta rays, reef sharks, and the occasional turtle.

Kalpitiya is a convenient base from which to launch a safari into this national park, which, at 1085 sq km, is Sri Lanka's largest. As well as lakes, you'll find here an impressive array of wildlife, including leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, wild pigs, and crocodiles.
